Doctor of Nursing Practice

About the Program

The Doctor of Nursing Practice program prepares advanced practice registered nurses to transform clinical practice as expert clinicians and leaders with a special focus on rural and underserved populations.

In addition to delivering evidence-based direct patient care at an advanced practice level to individuals across the lifespan in primary care settings, graduates of the DNP program will learn skills needed to produce and implement valuable evidence to guide practice and are prepared to work collaboratively with rural communities in an effort to reduce health disparities.

The DNP program is for bachelor-level nurses who have an entry-level degree in nursing or for professional nurses with a master's degree who are interested in significantly expanding their scope of responsibility and their impact.

I decided to go back for my psychiatric mental health degree because I worked for 12 years as a family nurse practitioner. There is so much mental health in family medicine. I always wondered what I was missing or how I could better tailor the care that I gave my patients to their direct mental health needs.
